‘Welcome to Featherstone’
by Colorado Mesa University

Welcome to Featherstone is a satirical higher-education campaign created for Colorado Mesa University (CMU). The campaign introduces a fictional, hyper-elite institution Featherstone University (F.U.) to challenge the idea that privilege equates to achievement. Through sharp humor and exaggerated prestige, the work delivers a serious message: real learning can’t be bought.

I worked on this project as a Senior Art Director, leading concept development, visual direction, and AI-assisted storyboarding while helping bring an entirely fictional university to life across digital, social, and campaign platforms.
The campaign narrative follows an out-of-place student navigating the absurd world of Featherstone, complete with legacy dorms, elite campus tours, and tongue-in-cheek courses like “Do You Know Who My Father Is 101.”

I crafted early sketch and storyboard concepts using AI tools, allowing us to rapidly visualize tone, pacing, and comedic beats before production. These storyboards helped align creative direction across teams and ensured the satire landed clearly while supporting the campaign’s core message: “We care about what you know, not who you know.”
Building and Branding a Fictional University

Featherstone University was built as a fully realized brand, not a one-off joke.
We developed its visual language, voice, values, and hierarchy to feel unmistakably elite, polished, and intentionally hollow.
From its crest and typography to its elitist mission statements, every detail supported the satire.

The fictional president, Dr. Augustus Sinclair Featherstone III, became a recurring character used to reinforce the institution’s exaggerated legacy and privilege-driven identity.
Social Content for
a Fictional University

To blur the line between fiction and reality, we launched fully functional social channels for Featherstone University.
I helped direct AI-generated visuals and video content designed to feel aspirational, glossy, and suspiciously prestigious, intentionally mimicking elite university marketing. These posts teased audiences with a university no one had heard of, sparking curiosity and debate before the full reveal.
A dedicated microsite expanded the world of Featherstone University,
Outlining its hollow values, elite positioning, and performative success culture. The site acted as a narrative extension of the campaign, reinforcing authenticity through detail while rewarding curious users who wanted to explore deeper into the satire.
Social Media Campaign on CMU Channels

Once intrigue was established, the campaign crossed over to Colorado Mesa University’s official social channels, where multiple campaign assets were released.

These placements connected the fictional world of F.U. to CMU’s real mission, highlighting merit, grit, and accessibility while using humor to challenge outdated perceptions of higher education.
The campaign quickly gained national traction and became a talking point across higher-ed media.

We breakout the discussions and talks

Beyond metrics, the campaign sparked meaningful conversations among students, educators, journalists, and families nationwide—proving that satire, when crafted with intention, can challenge assumptions and reinforce real values.
